A solar eclipse is a time for healing

Dear all

There are times when a natural phenomenon can tell us so much about ourselves and our world. A solar eclipse is such a time, when the sun is hidden from us for a little while. This lack of outside sun gives us an opportunity for our inner sun to shine and for us to remind ourselves metaphorically that whilst the light can out externally, it can always be carried in our hearts and minds, and therefore the external light can be switched on again.

Remember that a candle in the darkness lights the entire room.

There are many who are pessimistic about the world and about our country. And then there are many who see light and optimism. I am an optimist and my blood type is B+ (be positive).

Tonight from 8pm onwards, South African time, there is a total Solar Eclipse, visible in the USA and perhaps partially visible here.

There are calls from all over the world for people to meditate during the eclipse.

I have done some searching and reading to find Buddhist Sources and have found this from Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

"Lama Zopa Rinpoche advises that on solar eclipses the merit generated is multiplied by 100 million and that any beneficial practices can be done."

He says that we should practice remembering the Three Jewels during this time.

Let us join the millions of other meditators tonight in encouraging merit and using our Lojong practice to send healing to ourselves and to every sentient being. And the planet needs healing too.

Remember to allow the light to flow through you, and not to take responsibility (attachment) for the outcome. That outcome is out of our hands. All we can do it help light to shine and then "let nature take its course".

PS: The Three Jewels reminder: The Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha.

Let us pray and be in gratitude that we have found each other, our Sangha, and that we have found the Dharma and that we know that our Buddha natures lives within us, and that we are learning to expose this most beautiful jewel.
